Becoming a member of our support committee means helping us to send a strong message to UNESCO, showing how committed we are to World Heritage inscription for the Climats.
Committee President Bernard Pivot and all our members welcome everyone wishing to participate in this unique adventure. People from all spheres including cultural, political, economic and artistic walks of life share our ambition to obtain recognition of the Outstanding Universal Value of the Climats of Burgundy.
For most people in the world, when we talk about climate, we look up at the sky. However, in Burgundy, when we speak of a « Climat », we do not raise our eyes to the heavens, we keep them on the ground… ». The Burgundy vineyard is made up of hundreds of parcels of vines, with enchanting, age-old names. These are the Climats, and over time, they have shaped the world’s most ancient, prestigious and fascinating viticultural jigsaw puzzle. Burgundy is unique, not only because of its geography and history, but also its spirit and dedication to terroir and therefore deserves its place on the World Heritage list. Whether or not we are natives of Burgundy, we have a common commitment to preserve and to protect this treasure from being degraded or even standardized, which would be a crime. Universal recognition of the originality and excellence of Burgundy, and the unique quality of its Climats would ensure the continuity of Burgundy’s heritage and ongoing quest for excellence.
The Climats are an examplar of diversity, of a respect for history and of the integration of man with nature. They represent a perfect model of humanity overcoming the challenges of the natural environment. I could go on but those are just four of the reasons why we truly have here in Burgundy "Outstanding Universal Value" as defined by UNESCO, thus I cannot imagine how UNESCO could possibly not inscribe the Climats on the World Heritage list. There may be Climat sceptics but personally, I am a Climat convert and therefore a Climat activist. Long live Burgundy!

We must protect the Climats of Burgundy, because by protecting them we protect ourselves. What we have here is a harmonious marriage of the work of Man and Nature, with neither of them wishing to harm the other. Indeed, the special relationship between the two produces this wonderful nectar which never ceases to amaze me. I am honored to be part of the campaign and will fight tooth and nail to defend these celebrated Climats of Burgundy. I would like to add that France is also the country of wine and this is not something to be ashamed of – on the contrary, we should be very proud.
